To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (H. 3278) to request the Department of Transportation to name a portion of South Carolina Highway 17A in Berkeley County as the "Samuel D. Cooper Memorial Highway", etc., respectfully
That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:

TO REQUEST THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO NAME A PORTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 17A IN BERKELEY COUNTY AS THE "SAMUEL D. COOPER MEMORIAL HIGHWAY" IN MEMORY OF SAMUEL D. COOPER, A DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN OF BERKELEY COUNTY.
Whereas, the late Samuel D. Cooper was a much beloved and respected leader in Berkeley County; and
Whereas, Samuel D. Cooper distinguished himself many years ago as an unselfish individual and will long be remembered for his numerous contributions to Berkeley County and to the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, through his generosity, Mr. Cooper gave the Department of Transportation permission to use much of his property for the construction of South Carolina Highway 17A in Berkeley County. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina request the Department of Transportation to name that portion of South Carolina Highway 17A which is approximately 3.6 miles long beginning at the intersection of South Carolina Highway 17A and South Carolina Highway 52 and ending at the intersection of South Carolina Highway 17A and Canal Branch Road and Long Acre Drive to be named the "Samuel D. Cooper Memorial Highway". The department is requested to install appropriate markers or signs at places the department considers advisable containing the words "Samuel D. Cooper Memorial Highway".
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation and to the family of Samuel D. Cooper.
