TO CONGRATULATE ALEXA ERBACH OF COLUMBIA UPON BEING NAMED THE 2000-2001 RECIPIENT OF THE "JOE BROWN YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARD".
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are very pleased to learn that Alexa Erbach of Columbia, a fourteen-year-old freshman at Richland Northeast High School, has been named the 2000-2001 recipient of the Joe Brown Youth Leadership Award; and
Whereas, Alexa was the president of the Southern Region Violence and Substance Abuse Prevention Center's (VSAC) Youth Leadership Club at Dent Middle School. Through her involvement with VSAC she has participated in several juvenile justice events. She participated in the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's National Conference, Justice for Children: A Vision for the 21st Century in December 2000; and at this conference, she co-facilitated a workshop on youth forums and assisted at a workshop on youth adult partnerships; and
Whereas, in the fall of 2000, she was selected to be a youth delegate in the National Youth Network and in June 2000, she was a presenter at the Alcohol Policy XII Conference, Alcohol and Crime: Research and Practice for Prevention, hosted by the National Crime Prevention Council; and
Whereas, Alexa is also an active dancer with the Columbia City Jazz Company and has participated in various competitions, and because she wants to make an impact on the lives of others, she wants to major in either journalism or law in college; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate this outstanding young lady on her receipt of this truly deserved award. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representative congratulate Alexa Erbach of Columbia upon being named the 2000-2001 recipient of the "Joe Brown Youth Leadership Award".
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Alexa Erbach.
