A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND EXTOL PAUL PIETROWSKI, OF ST. GEORGE, FOR HIS GALLANT DISPLAY OF HEROISM IN COMING TO THE AID OF A BATTERED WOMAN HE ENCOUNTERED ON THE SIDE OF ROUND O ROAD NEAR COTTAGEVILLE ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 28, 2001.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly would like to commend and honor Paul Pietrowski for the courage and selflessness he displayed in helping to save a stranger's life; and

Whereas, a woman was being assaulted by her estranged husband on the side of Round O Road when a teenage boy stopped, and the woman got in his car. The husband followed them in his car and rear-ended the boy's car. The husband's car was not drivable so he flagged down two women and carjacked their car; and

Whereas, Paul Pietrowski and his wife, Stephanie, of St. George, were driving to Jacksonboro to visit the grave of Revolutionary War Colonel Isaac Haynes when they were flagged down by the two women who had been carjacked. They then saw the husband driving the woman's car past them, stopping on the side of the road where his estranged wife and the teenage boy were stopped. The husband had his already bruised and battered wife on the ground and was kicking and punching her; and

Whereas, Paul Pietrowski instinctively grabbed his licensed revolver and started toward the feuding couple. The assailant got back in the carjacked vehicle and drove toward Pietrowski. Pietrowski aimed the gun at him before he swerved at the last moment and then sped off; and

Whereas, the victim gravely feared for her life and graciously credits Pietrowski for saving her. He is a true hero who acted out of the goodness of his heart to help a stranger; and

Whereas, the General Assembly sincerely commends Paul Pietrowski for his bravery exhibited by protecting this woman from being further threatened and abused. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend and extol Paul Pietrowski, of St. George, for his gallant display of heroism in coming to the aid of a battered woman he encountered on the side of Round O Road near Cottageville on Sunday, January 28, 2001.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Paul Pietrowski.
