A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE LADY STALLIONS OF LEE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL IN BISHOPVILLE FOR THEIR UNDEFEATED BASKETBALL SEASON IN WHICH THEY COMPILED A RECORD OF INCREDIBLY DOMINATING VICTORIES AND TO CONGRATULATE THE TEAM ON WINNING THE 2001 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AA GIRLS BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the Lady Stallions of Lee Central High School began the preseason ranked No. 1 in the State and held that position throughout its perfect season of thirty victories and zero losses, which it capped in the Carolina Coliseum on Saturday, March 10, 2001, by winning the Class AA Girls State Championship; and

Whereas, the Lady Stallions of Lee Central, led by Head Coach Dorothy Fortune, employed tenacious defense and prolific scoring which combined with their talent and dedication enabled them to have a successful season and capture the state title; and

Whereas, the Stallions are a talented group of student athletes led by seniors Bernita Lunn, Kesia Lighty, and Patrice Holmes, with Christina Williams, Avon Halley, LaTangela Atkinson, Demetress Adams, April Draksford, Tiffany Holoman, Johnetta Saunders, Ashla Rogers, and Tonya Evans also making great contributions; and

Whereas, the Lady Stallions maintained their No. 1 ranking throughout the year by completely dominating opponents with such incredible scores as 79-10 over C.A. Johnson; 82-7, 103-17, and 86-8 in three games against Lamar; a 98-6 rout of Chesterfield, a 112-21 dismantling of Cheraw; and a 70-20 trouncing of Andrew Jackson; and

Whereas, the Stallions had somewhat of a slow start in the championship game, then quickly adjusted to the confines of the Carolina Coliseum and began what would turn into a blowout of the last team standing between Lee Central and a state title; as the Lady Stallions opened the second half with a 15-4 run in finally defeating Hanahan 55-35 to win the championship; and

Whereas, the Lady Stallions basketball team, through skill, hard work, and determination, completed a terrific season of spirited competition and proudly represented their families, school, and this State in their quest for a state championship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend the Lady Stallions of Lee Central High School in Bishopville for their undefeated basketball season in which they compiled a record of incredibly dominating victories and congratulate the team on winning the 2001 South Carolina Class AA Girls Basketball State Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Dorothy Fortune of the Lady Stallions Basketball team of Lee Central High School.
