TO HONOR COMMAND SERGEANT MAJOR A. FRANK LEVER III OF LEXINGTON, THE FIRST PERSON FROM SOUTH CAROLINA TO SERVE AS THE COMMAND SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE NATIONAL GUARD BUREAU.
Whereas, in February 2001, Command Sergeant Major A. Frank Lever III was selected as the first person from South Carolina to serve as the Command Sergeant Major of the National Guard Bureau. This selection makes him the senior enlisted soldier in the National Guard. In his position, Command Sergeant Major Lever is responsible for the health and welfare of more than two hundred fifty thousand soldiers from all fifty states and four commonwealths and territories; and
Whereas, Command Sergeant Major Lever attended public schools in Lexington and graduated from The Citadel in 1969 with a political science degree. He also has a master's degree in management and has completed numerous military courses; and
Whereas, after completing college, Command Sergeant Major Lever joined the South Carolina National Guard and, over the last thirty-one years, has held all leadership positions in the noncommissioned officer corps. He worked full time for the South Carolina Army National Guard for over seventeen years. Before being elevated in February 2001 to Command Sergeant Major of the National Guard Bureau in Washington, D. C., he served in that capacity for the South Carolina National Guard; and
Whereas, Command Sergeant Major Lever has been awarded numerous achievement and commendation medals in his stellar career; and
Whereas, married to the former Ellen Richardson and father of two sons, David and Stephen, Command Sergeant Major Lever now resides in Washington, D. C. and works in the highest levels of policymaking of the federal government; and
Whereas, Command Sergeant Major Lever's achievements and rise to the top echelon of the National Guard's leadership reflect great credit upon him, the National Guard, and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor Command Sergeant Major A. Frank Lever III, the first person from South Carolina to serve as the Command Sergeant Major of the National Guard Bureau.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Command Sergeant Major A. Frank Lever III.
