A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 58-35-75 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT ANY PUBLIC UTILITY OR ENTITY THAT PROVIDES PUBLIC UTILITY SERVICES WHICH HAS UNDERGROUND CABLES, FACILITIES, OR LINES MUST PARTICIPATE IN THE PALMETTO UTILITY PROTECTION SERVICE, INC., A CORPORATION FORMED UNDER THIS CHAPTER DESIGNED TO PROVIDE A COMPUTERIZED NOTIFICATION SYSTEM OF UNDERGROUND UTILITY CABLES, FACILITIES, AND LINES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

    "Section 58-35-75.    Any public utility or entity that provides public utility services which has underground cables, facilities, or lines must participate in the Palmetto Utility Protection Service, Inc., or any successor entity, a corporation formed under this chapter consisting of member utilities which is designed to provide a computerized notification system of underground utility cables, facilities, and lines."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
