A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF THE LAMAR HIGH SCHOOL BOYS TRACK TEAM ON WINNING THEIR THIRD CONSECUTIVE CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY, MAY 12, 2001, IN COLUMBIA AND WISH THE TEAM MUCH ATHLETIC AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives applaud the Lamar High School Boys Track Team for winning the Class A State Championship meet Saturday, May 12, 2001, and congratulate the young men on an outstanding season; and

Whereas, the Lamar "Silver Foxes" won their third consecutive state championship this year with an astounding total of one hundred-seventeen points, forty-eight points over the second place team; and

Whereas, the team really worked together to secure the state championship title early in the meet, unlike the last two years when they won the title in the last event. Not only did the team have strong returning members, but they relied on newcomers to make up the difference and widen the margin between Lamar and their opponents, scores; and

Whereas, the team had five first place finishes: Shon Shuler in the 110 hurdles, Christian Hudson in the pole vault, Derrick Higgins in the 400 meter and the 200 meter, and the 1,600 relay team. However, the majority of the points scored by the "Silver Foxes" were not first place finishes; and

Whereas, members of the 2001 State Championship Team included Shon Shuler, Marcus Fox, DJ Gilmore, Ramel Lyde, AJ Allen, Fred Gambrell, Jesse Hall, Maurice Johnson, Richard Robinson, Emmanuel Dobson, Derrick Higgins, Shawnta Mack, Rick McFadden, Mario Mack, and Jonathan Thomas. These young men were led by coach Charlie Poole; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives congratulates the members of the Lamar High School Boys Track Team on their overwhelming victory in the Class A State Meet, their third consecutive state championship, and wish them many more stellar seasons. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the members of the Lamar High School Boys Track Team on winning their third consecutive Class A State Championship Saturday, May 12, 2001, in Columbia and wish them much athletic and academic success in the future.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lamar High School.
