A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXTENDING THE SINCERE CONDOLENCES OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF ESTHER BONEY SHAW OF SUMTER COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER DEATH ON JUNE 5, 2001.

Whereas, Esther Boney Shaw, widow of Bartow S. Shaw, Sr., died Tuesday, June 5, 2001; and

Whereas, the Sumter native leaves a legacy of service to her hometown; and

Whereas, this daughter of the late Ephraim Boney, Jr., and Esther Juanita Davis began her devotion to the community and her church upon her graduation from Edmunds High School and her return to Sumter from Blackstone College for Girls in Virginia; and

Whereas, Mrs. Shaw was a sustaining member of the Junior Welfare League and past president of the Sumter Art Association; and

Whereas, she served on the advisory board of the Salvation Army; and

Whereas, Mrs. Shaw was the first woman elected as an Elder in the history of the First Presbyterian Church of Sumter, and was designated Elder Emerita; and

Whereas, she was a member of McLaurin-Berean Sunday School Class, active in all phases of the work of the Women of the Church, and a Life Member; and

Whereas, she is survived by her loving family: son, Bartow "Bo" Shaw and his wife, Victoria Livingston Shaw of Sumter; sister, Dorothy Boney Lewin of Sumter; grandchildren, Paul H. Lamb IV, Bartow Livingston Shaw, Marianne Davis Shaw, Martha Rutledge Shaw, and Charles Alderman Shaw; and a large number of relatives and friends. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives extend their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Esther Boney Shaw of Sumter County on the occasion of her death on June 5, 2001.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to her son, Mr. Bartow "Bo" Shaw, Jr.
