A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE REVEREND A. B. SHERMAN OF GREENVILLE COUNTY, FOUNDER OF VALLEY BROOK BAPTIST CHURCH, AS THE CHURCH HONORS HIM DURING ITS FOUNDERS DAY CELEBRATION ON JUNE 17, 2001.

Whereas, the Reverend A. B. Sherman was born on an Anderson County farm on June 11, 1914; and

Whereas, he was married for sixty-one years to the late Elizabeth Sherman, and together they reared eleven children; and

Whereas, he and his wife, with their eleven children, formed the gospel-singing Sherman Family which performed throughout the South for many years; and

Whereas, on May 22, 1960, Reverend Sherman preached his first sermon at Rock Hill Baptist Church No. 1, later founded Rock of Ages Baptist Church in 1963 where he pastored until 1972, and then pastored Snow Hill Baptist Church from 1972 until 1987; and

Whereas, at the age of seventy-three, Reverend Sherman and his late wife founded the Valley Brook Baptist Church in their home in Greenville County in 1987, which has grown to become a six hundred member congregation pastored by his grandson, the Reverend Curtis Johnson; and

Whereas, it has been brought to the attention of the members of the House of Representatives that on June 17, 2001, Valley Brook Baptist Church will honor Reverend Sherman during its Founders Day celebration; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank this outstanding man of God for his many years of Christian service and extend to him and the parishioners at Valley Brook Baptist Church best wishes during their Founders Day celebration. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives recognize and commend Reverend A. B. Sherman of Greenville County, founder of Valley Brook Baptist Church, as the church honors him during its Founders Day celebration on June 17, 2001.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend A. B. Sherman.
