A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE ST. JUDE MEDICAL INC. IN PICKENS COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF ITS RECEIVING THE 2001 INNOVISION AWARD FOR TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT FOR ITS REVOLUTIONARY RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF CAPACITORS FOR IMPLANTABLE HEART DEVICES.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to recognize St. Jude Medical Inc. in Pickens County for receiving the 2001 InnoVision Technology Award on November 6, 2001, for its innovative development of capacitors for implantable heart devices; and

Whereas, St. Jude Medical Inc. is a technically oriented facility performing praiseworthy advances in heart implant devices and in other apparatus for medical uses worthy of recognition; and

Whereas, St. Jude's research reduced the size of the capacitor by up to four hundred percent and significantly increased its power, allowing sophisticated treatment options to more patients; and

Whereas, Tom Strange, the director of research and development at St. Jude, is part of the sixteen-man team that designed the flat, high-energy capacitor specifically for patients who are at risk for imminent cardiac death; and

Whereas, the General Assembly is pleased to have such ground-breaking achievement in the State and applauds St. Jude Medical Inc. for its outstanding accomplishment and award. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate St. Jude Medical Inc. in Pickens County on the occasion of its receiving the 2001 InnoVision Award for Technology Development for its revolutionary research and development of capacitors for implantable heart devices.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to St. Jude Medical Inc. in Pickens County.
