AN ACT TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 53-3-160, SO AS TO DESIGNATE THE ELEVENTH DAY OF SEPTEMBER OF EACH YEAR AS A STATE DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE SEPTEMBER 11, 2001, TERRORIST ATTACKS AND FOR ALL OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S FIREFIGHTERS, LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS, NATIONAL GUARD, AND EMERGENCY SERVICE PERSONNEL, AND 911 TELECOMMUNICATORS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Designating the eleventh day of September a Day of Remembrance

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 53-3-160. The eleventh day of September of each year is designated as a State Day of Remembrance for the victims of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and for the firefighters, law enforcement, National Guard, emergency service personnel, and 911 telecommunicators who risk their lives and contribute every day to ensure the safety of South Carolina's citizens."

Time effective

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.

Ratified the 14th day of May, 2002.

Approved the 20th day of May, 2002.
