AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 47-5-150, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL FURNISHING ANTIRABIC (HUMAN) VACCINE, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT MUST ENSURE THE AVAILABILITY OF ANTIRABIC (HUMAN) VACCINE AND GLOBULIN PRODUCTS FOR PERSONS BITTEN BY OR EXPOSED TO A PET OR ANIMAL FOUND OR SUSPECTED TO BE AFFECTED BY RABIES, TO PROVIDE THAT THE PROVISION OF THESE PRODUCTS MUST BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH DEPARTMENT GUIDELINES, AND TO AUTHORIZE THE DEPARTMENT TO SEEK REIMBURSEMENT FOR THESE PRODUCTS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Department to make antirabic (human) vaccine and globulin products available
SECTION 1. Section 47-5-150 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 517 of 1992, is further amended to read:
"Section 47-5-150. The department must ensure the availability of antirabic (human) vaccine and globulin products for persons bitten by or otherwise exposed to a pet or other animal found or suspected to be affected by rabies. The provision of such products shall be in accordance with departmental guidelines. The department is authorized to seek reimbursement for the cost of such products from sources to include, but not limited to, personal/medical insurance and/or Medicaid/Medicare coverage of the person receiving the products."
Time effective
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
