A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MR. EUGENE GREGG, SR., OF RICHLAND COUNTY, FOR HIS TIRELESS EFFORTS TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF THE CITIZENS OF HIS COMMUNITY AND THIS STATE.

Whereas, Mr. Eugene Gregg, Sr., was born on August 30, 1931, in Sumter County, the son of William Edward and Geneva Cooper Gregg; and

Whereas, Eugene Gregg graduated from Butler High School in Hartsville, South Carolina, and later earned his Associate Degree in Business Administration from Columbia Junior College; and

Whereas, Mr. Gregg is a devoted husband to his wife of fifty years, Barbara Mumford Gregg, and is the loving father of four children, Yvette, Peggy, Eugene, Jr., and Janice, grandfather of three, and great-grandfather of six; and

Whereas, Eugene Gregg proudly served his country for twenty-seven years in the United States Air Force before retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant; his bravery and leadership earned him the United States Air Force Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Certificate of Merit; and

Whereas, Mr. Gregg is a member of and has held positions of leadership in several prestigious organizations within his community including the Modern Free & Accepted Masons of the World -- B'Natural Grand Lodge #078, State of South Carolina; he was named the Ruth Grand Chapter #079 Outstanding Mason of the Year in 1999 and 2000, and as the Worshipful Master of the Henry Williams Lodge #024, he conducted the laying of the Cornerstone at New Ebenezer Baptist Church; and

Whereas, Eugene Gregg has been a faithful member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church since 1982, where he has served that congregation as a Deacon, the Treasurer, and as President of the Jubilee Choir; he has taken active roles in the Benevolence, Missionary, and Kitchen Ministries; Mr. Gregg's work with the church has earned him the JAGS Appreciation Award and a Special Recognition Award; and

Whereas, he worked for Midlands Center for sixteen and one-half years before retiring in 1994; he has done extensive work with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control's Office of Minority Health in which he wrote a grant to receive funding for the African American Prostate Cancer Initiative and served on the Initiative's Advisory Council; and

Whereas, Mr. Gregg's desire to help young people achieve their dreams led him to establish a higher education scholarship fund for students who are family members of Free Masons; and

Whereas, the General Assembly takes great pride in recognizing the work that Mr. Eugene Gregg does to benefit his fellow man and expresses the hope that all citizens of the Palmetto State would follow the example of this dedicated public servant. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend Mr. Eugene Gregg, Sr., of Richland County, for his tireless efforts to improve the lives of the citizens of his community and this State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Eugene Gregg, Sr., of Richland County.
