TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF OF THE TIMMONSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM ON THEIR OUTSTANDING SEASON AND THEIR 2002 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO WISH THEM MUCH ATHLETIC AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE.
Whereas, the Timmonsville High School Varsity Girls Basketball Team defeated Lewisville High School Saturday, March 9, 2002, at the Carolina Coliseum to win the Class A State Championship; and
Whereas, the game ended in overtime with a score of sixty-two to sixty-one, marking the first championship for the girls in Timmonsville High School history; and
Whereas, Kim Depugh kept the Whirlwinds alive during the championship game scoring twenty-one points, and Shaquana James netted a three pointer and a field goal from the base line to end the overtime with a win; and
Whereas, Depugh had help scoring from Lashaundra Dubose with thirteen points, Shaunte Small and Shaquana James with eleven points each, and Janese Morris with four points; and
Whereas, the team finished the season with twenty-seven wins and only four losses, setting the record for the most wins by a Timmonsville High school girls team; and
Whereas, members of the Lady Whirlwinds winning team include Latoria Pettigrew, Jelana Friday, Shaunte Small, Lashaundra Dubose, Shaquana James, Janese Morris, Genine Green, Kim Depugh, Cassandra Simon, Chelsey Shoppell, Dana Kinlaw, Tiffany Devaughn, Dana Washington, Chevonnia Edwards, and Yvette McFadden; and
Whereas, the driving forces behind the talent of the team this season have been the coaches: head coach, Perry Stokes and assistant coaches, Henry Dixon and Regina Jones; and
Whereas, the General Assembly applauds the Timmonsville High School Lady Whirlwinds Basketball Team, coaches, and staff for their winning season and unprecedented championship win. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the players, coaches, and staff of the Timmonsville High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team on their outstanding season and their 2002 Class A State Championship and wish them much athletic and academic success in the future.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Timmonsville High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team.
