TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE FIRST ROBOTICS TEAM 343 OF OCONEE COUNTY FOR WINNING THE NASA KENNEDY SPACE CENTER SOUTHEAST REGIONAL COMPETITION AND THE NASA LANGLEY REGIONAL COMPETITION AND FOR RECEIVING THE ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARD AT THE NATIONAL COMPETITION.
Whereas, the members of the Senate wish to pay tribute to the team of Oconee County students, engineers, educators, parents, and community mentors designated as Team 343 for leading their championship alliance to victory in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition with their robot, "Metal in Motion"; and
Whereas, at a competition on March 1-3, 2001, the team won the NASA Kennedy Space Center Southeast FIRST Robotics Regional Competition and received the Judges' Award for their extraordinary business education partnership; and
Whereas, this exceptional team continued its outstanding effort by winning the NASA Langley FIRST Robotics Regional Competition and receiving the General Motors Industrial Design and Incredible Play Awards at the competition on March 8-10, 2001; and
Whereas, at the FIRST National Robotics Competition on April 5-7, 2001, Team 343 received the Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers Entrepreneurship Award for its unique blend of partnership, teamwork, and exceptional organization; and
Whereas, the team members consist of students from all four Oconee County high schools and mentors from Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative, Compact Automation, Duke Energy, Schlumberger, Square D, and Torrington; and
Whereas, competing in the 2001 FIRST National Competition were more than ten thousand high school students on three hundred thirty teams from forty-four states, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Brazil; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate take great pride in the members of the FIRST Robotics Team 343 of Oconee County and the outstanding awards and accomplishments they have recently received. The team and its achievements are a credit to their community, the County of Oconee, and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, commend and congratulate FIRST Robotics Team 343 of Oconee County for winning the NASA Kennedy Space Center Southeast Regional Competition and the NASA Langley Regional Competition and for receiving the Entrepreneurship Award at the National Competition.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to FIRST Robotics Team 343 of Oconee County.
