    To whom was referred a Bill (S. 212) to amend Act 469 of 2000, relating to the election of members of the Board of Trustees of York County School District 1, etc., respectfully

A BILL

TO AMEND ACT 469 OF 2000, RELATING TO THE ELECTION OF MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF YORK COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT 1, SO AS TO REVISE THE DATE BY WHICH CANDIDATES MUST FILE FOR ELECTION TO THESE OFFICES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 1(B)(3) of Act 469 of 2000 is amended to read:

    "(3)    Notwithstanding any other provisions of law, beginning with elections conducted in 1996, each candidate for election as a trustee to the school boards in York County School Districts 1, 2, 3, and 4 must file his statement of candidacy with the Registration and Elections Commission for York County for the period beginning no earlier than 12:00 noon on August first and ending no later than 12:00 noon on August thirty-first fifteenth. However, if either of these dates falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the date is extended until 12:00 noon of the next succeeding day which is not a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
