To whom was referred a Bill (S. 1015) to amend the Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, by adding Section 59-29-250 so as to provide for at least two hours of instruction in an, etc., respectfully
That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass with amendment:
Amend the bill, as and if amended, by deleting all after the enacting words and inserting:
/ SECTION 1. Chapter 29, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-29-250. The State Department of Education shall develop guidelines for appropriate instruction in the prevention of and the penalties for lynching pursuant to Section 16-3-220. Each school district shall provide this training during freshman orientation.
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor. /
Renumber sections to conform.
Amend title to conform.

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-29-250 SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR AT LEAST TWO HOURS OF INSTRUCTION IN AN EXPLANATION OF THE CRIME OF LYNCHING AND THE PENALTIES IN EIGHTH THROUGH TWELFTH GRADES IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS OF THE STATE.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 29, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-29-250. The State Board of Education shall provide for at least two hours of instruction in an explanation of the crime of lynching and the penalties pursuant to Sections 16-3-210 and 16-3-220 in an appropriate course in eighth through twelfth grades in the public schools of the State."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
