A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND COMMEND DOCTOR CHARLES ROBERT PROPST OF SUMTER ON RECEIVING SOUTH CAROLINA'S HIGHEST HONOR IN THE PEDIATRIC FIELD, THE WILLIAM WESTON DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN PEDIATRICS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are pleased to recognize Doctor Charles Robert Propst of Sumter for his lifetime of commitment to the care of children; and

Whereas, Doctor Charles Propst was born in Sumter in 1925 and graduated from Edmunds High School and The Citadel. He received a medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1948; and

Whereas, after completing a two-year residency, Doctor Propst joined the Marine Corps and served in three campaigns during the Korean War, where he earned the Bronze Star and the Presidential Unit Citation; and

Whereas, after leaving the Marine Corps, Doctor Propst returned to Sumter to practice medicine and married his wife, Helen, in 1954. In 1956, Doctor Propst and Doctor William F. Young opened their own practice, which later became Sumter Pediatrics, and currently serves forty thousand patients a year with nine doctors on staff; and

Whereas, Doctor Propst retired from private practice in 1986 to begin a fellowship in developmental pediatrics at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine; he became an associate professor in 1989 and a full professor in 1996; and

Whereas, the prestigious award bestowed on Doctor Propst by the school is named for pediatrician Doctor William Weston and recognizes a pediatrician whose life best exemplifies the ideals of professional excellence, dedication, and service to children; and

Whereas the members of the House of Representatives are proud to recognize Doctor Charles Robert Propst of Sumter on receiving the William Weston Distinguished Service Award for Excellence in Pediatrics from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and for his nearly fifty years in practicing and teaching pediatric medicine. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives commend and congratulate Doctor Charles Robert Propst of Sumter on receiving South Carolina's highest honor in the pediatric field, the William Weston Distinguished Service Award for Excellence in Pediatrics from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and wish him much success and happiness in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Doctor Charles Robert Propst of Sumter.
