AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 59-25-55, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO TEACHERS, SO AS TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA CENTER FOR TEACHER RECRUITMENT TO THE CENTER FOR EDUCATOR RECRUITMENT, RETENTION, AND ADVANCEMENT OF SOUTH CAROLINA (CERRA-SOUTH CAROLINA).

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Name of Teacher Recruitment Center changed

SECTION    1.    Section 59-25-55 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 59-25-55.    The Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement of South Carolina (CERRA-South Carolina) in cooperation with the Commission on Higher Education shall establish a program with the purpose of expanding the number of high achieving minority students entering teacher education programs. The program shall include, but not be limited to, identification of minority high school students who have an interest in teaching and recruitment of those students into the teacher cadet program, personal counseling of minority students in the teacher cadet program about high demand certification areas, and college opportunities."

Time effective

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.

Ratified the 16th day of April, 2003.

Became law without the signature of the Governor -- 4/23/03.
