A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF AIKEN FOR MORE THAN SIXTY YEARS OF DEDICATED AND UNWAVERING SUPPORT OF TROOP 110 OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA IN AIKEN, RECOGNIZE THE CHURCH'S TREMENDOUS CONTRIBUTION TO THE VALUES, MORAL DEVELOPMENT, AND LIVES OF THOSE ENABLED TO PARTICIPATE IN SCOUTING BY VIRTUE OF THEIR SUPPORT, AND TO CONVEY EVERY GOOD WISH FOR THEIR CONTINUED SUCCESS IN SUPPORTING TROOP 110 AND SCOUTING IN THE FUTURE.

Whereas, Troop 110 of the Boy Scouts of America was first chartered in 1939. It has been continuously chartered through First Presbyterian Church of Aiken since 1941; and

Whereas, thanks in large measure to the support provided by the church, Troop 110 has been imminently successful in its scouting mission and, in turn, has provided a foundation for and helped spawn other scouting units such as Cub Scout Pact 110, Explorer Post 110, and Venture Crew 110; and

Whereas, with strong and unwavering institutional support from the church, Troop 110 has played an integral part in the life of Aiken. There have been only twelve Scoutmasters for the troop since 1939, and more than nine hundred and fifty boys and young men in the Aiken area have participated in scouting as members of Troop 110. Of those, one hundred five members of Troop 110 have earned the prestigious Eagle Scout Badge, the highest award in scouting, by the end of 2002; and

Whereas, in addition to scouting programs, strong adult volunteer support groups, such as the Troop 110 Mother's Club, active in Aiken for many years, have flourished. And, exemplifying the best of scouting, and as a direct result of strong adult leadership, parental and church support, thousands of hours of volunteer and community service have been performed in and around Aiken by the boy scouts of Troop 110; and

Whereas, the First Presbyterian Church of Aiken, in addition to its Christian ministries to the people and community of Aiken, has rendered a tremendous service to the boys and young men of Aiken who, as a result of the church's unwavering support of Troop 110 for more than sixty years, have been enabled to participate in scouting. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, commend the First Presbyterian Church of Aiken for more than sixty years of dedicated and unwavering support of Troop 110, Boy Scouts of America, in Aiken, recognize the church's tremendous contribution to the values, moral development, and lives of those enabled to participate in scouting by virtue of its support, and convey every good wish for its continued success in supporting Troop 110 and scouting in the future.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the First Presbyterian Church of Aiken.
