WYMAN KING ACADEMY "LADY KNIGHTS" VOLLEYBALL TEAM OF BATESBURG ON CAPTURING THE SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2002, AND SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2002.

Whereas, participation in high school sports affords young people an opportunity to become great athletes while learning the importance of dedication, perseverance, and teamwork; and

Whereas, playing the sport of volleyball, in particular, necessitates the development of not only extreme physical abilities but also of verbal and nonverbal communication skills; and

Whereas, to become champions in the sport, single members must relinquish thoughts of individualism and realize the need for cooperation among all players in order to become a team of people with one common goal; and

Whereas, the members of the "Lady Knights" Volleyball Team of W. Wyman King Academy in Batesburg, under the outstanding leadership of Coach Denise Rowe, included Kerianne Blease, Ashley Briggs, Susan Chapman, Brittany Mappus, Brittany Matthews, Melissa Price, Jenna Rikard, Haleigh Rogers, Jessica Schumpert, Caitlin Scurry, Libby Shealy, and Joni Watkins; and

Whereas, these young women and their committed coach recognized their talents and began the season with positive attitudes and high hopes allowing them to exude a competitive spirit, play the game with great force, and succeed in almost every match; and

Whereas, at the conclusion of the season, the "Lady Knights" overcame Clarendon Hall and First Baptist-Mt. Pleasant on Friday, October 25, 2002, and then defeated First Baptist-Mt. Pleasant again, and Low Country Day on Saturday, October 26, 2002, to win the 2002 South Carolina Independent School Association Class A State Volleyball Championship; and

Whereas, during the championship series Kerrianne Blease, Ashley Briggs, Susan Chapman, and Jenna Rikard were recognized for their individual athleticism and named to the 2002 All Region Volleyball Team; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly wish to publicly recognize the hard work and stellar performance of the W. Wyman King Academy "Lady Knights" Volleyball Team and of their coach, Denise Rowe. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the coach and members of the W.
