A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE DREHER HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM AND TO THEIR COACH, TERESA JONES, OF COLUMBIA ON THEIR REMARKABLE SEASON AND ON CAPTURING THE CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE ON SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 2003.

Whereas, playing basketball allows young people the opportunity to learn the importance of dedication and hard work while developing unique athletic talents; and

Whereas, becoming a champion in this sport requires every member of the team and coaching staff to have special leadership skills and physical abilities; and

Whereas, using those talents, Coach Teresa Jones, Assistants James Leysath and Steve Inabinet, and the members of the Dreher High School Girls' Basketball Team of Columbia defeated almost every opponent and learned how to encourage and communicate with each other; and

Whereas, during the season, the team enjoyed many winning moments and was named the Region V Class AAA Champions and the Class AAA Lower State Champions by defeating Lake City High School by a score of 73 to 36, Manning High School by a score of 65 to 49, Myrtle Beach High School by a score of 57 to 38, and Timberland High School by a score of 69 to 42; and

Whereas, on Saturday, March 8, 2003, the Dreher High School Girls' Basketball Team played their most important game of the season at the Carolina Center and took on York High School for the title of State Champion; and

Whereas, after a long and hard-fought match-up, Dreher High School emerged victoriously and captured the Class AAA State Championship by a score of 64 to 58, ending their season with an overall record of 28 wins and 2 losses; and

Whereas, the members of the Dreher High School Girls' Basketball Team are Audrey Castor, Shaunta Cleveland, Lucia Derks, Lesley Gadson, Ashley Goodwin, Vanessa Green, Ashley Harris, Keturah Jackson, Courtney Lemon, Shekeyla Lemon, Ashley Morris, Tiffany Sumpter, Lakesha Tolliver, and Kierstyn Wallace; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize the outstanding accomplishments of young South Carolinians and hope that they will use the skills they have learned by playing basketball to be the future leaders of this State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the Dreher High School Girls' Basketball Team and to their coach, Teresa Jones, of Columbia on their remarkable season and on capturing the Class AAA State Championship Title on Saturday, March 8, 2003.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the members of the Dreher High School Girls' Basketball Team and their coach, Teresa Jones, of Columbia.
