A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE DREHER HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA DEPARTMENT AND THE DREHER DRAMA DEVILS OF COLUMBIA FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES AT THIS YEAR'S PALMETTO DRAMATICS ASSOCIATION'S DRAMA FESTIVAL, FOR RECEIVING A SUPERIOR RATING, AND FOR BEING THE HIGHEST POINT WINNERS OF THE FESTIVAL.

Whereas, on the weekend of February 28 through March 2, the Dreher Drama Devils, also known as the Three-D Players, of Columbia traveled to Winthrop University to participate in the Palmetto Dramatics Association's 2003 Drama Festival; and

Whereas, this festival brings together approximately twenty public and private high school drama programs from across the State for a fun-filled weekend of acting and competition; and

Whereas, these skilled groups of students perform one-act plays and receive ratings and point values from qualified judges who critique all aspects of the productions; and

Whereas, at this year's festival, the members of the Dreher Drama Devils received a Superior rating for their performances of Acts III and V of A Midsummer Night's Dream and gained the highest number of points of the entire competition, being only three points away from a perfect score; and

Whereas, under the direction of Ms. Jeanette Arvay and with the aid of Mrs. Maureen Thunnell, Mr. James K. Chu, and Mrs. Fran George, these talented teenagers spent many hours practicing and perfecting all of the details of this play; and

Whereas, the members of the Dreher Drama Devils are Katie Abbott, Bobby Bloom, Nate Bloom, Rob Bockman, Luke Bradley, Lucien Bruno, Ashley Caggiano, Shu-nan Chu, Ali Collins, Alex Crawford, Elizabeth Crenshaw, Katie Elliott, Dan Fenner, Mackenzie Foster, Robert Galloway, Jay-Jeff Gordon, Jaclyn Hall, Liz Harvie, Elizabeth May, Beth Perkins, Abby Thames, and Matt Thunnell; and

Whereas, during the weekend individuals received prestigious awards as well, including Dan Fenner who received a Superior rating for his portrayal of Bottom and Abby Thames who received a Superior rating for the makeup design of Oberon; and

Whereas, it is with great determination and hard work that these students were able to capture First Place at this year's competition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, wish to extend their congratulations to the Dreher High School Drama Department and the Dreher Drama Devils of Columbia for their outstanding performances at this year's Palmetto Dramatics Association's Drama Festival, for receiving a Superior rating, and for being the highest point winners of the festival.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the members of the Dreher Drama Devils and their director, Ms. Jeanette Arvay, of Columbia.
