A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE SINCERE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF MRS. JEAN LUMPKIN HARVIN OF MANNING, AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the people of Manning and Clarendon County are deeply saddened by the death of Jean Lumpkin Harvin, who passed away Saturday, April 12, 2003; and

Whereas, Mrs. Harvin was the daughter of the late Bryan Hopkins and Frances Herren Lumpkin; and

Whereas, Jean Harvin was a graduate of the University of South Carolina where she was active in her sorority, Delta Delta Delta, and was crowned Miss Garnet and Black in 1947; and

Whereas, as a member of the Presbyterian Church of Manning, Mrs. Harvin served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and Bible school teacher, and was active in the Women of the Church; and

Whereas, Jean Harvin was an keen collector of antiques, an ardent gardener, and a former aerobics instructor who will be remembered by friends for her delightful sense of humor; and

Whereas, Mrs. Harvin will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched with her warm personality. She is survived by her husband, William Burgess Harvin; two daughters, Jeanie Harvin Edwards and Nancy Ingram Harvin; three sons, William Burgess Harvin, Jr., Bryan LeGrand Harvin, and United States Army Staff Sergeant Samuel Oliver Harvin and his wife, Jan; a sister, Ann L. Brinson, a brother, Joseph H. Lumpkin; five grandchildren; and many other family members and friends. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their sincere sorrow upon the death of Mrs. Jean Lumpkin Harvin of Manning and extend deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Jean Lumpkin Harvin.
