A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO AYNOR HIGH SCHOOL AND ITS ADMINISTRATORS, TEACHERS, AND STUDENTS UPON RECEIVING NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR EXEMPLARY VOLUNTEER SERVICE BY RECEIVING THE PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD AND ON BEING AWARDED THE 2003 PALMETTO'S FINEST AWARD FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize groups and individuals in this State who are dedicated to giving their time as volunteers, building a greater sense of community among the people of their neighborhoods, cities, and towns; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are proud to have schools in South Carolina that recognize the value of community service and emphasize the importance of volunteering; and

Whereas, this year, Aynor High School has gained national recognition because of its commitment to serving the community by being awarded the Prudential Spirit of Community Award, which honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated extraordinary community service efforts; and

Whereas, most recently, Aynor High School received the Palmetto's Finest Award, which is sponsored by Carolina First Bank and the South Carolina Association of School Administrators, and given by the South Carolina Department of Education; and

Whereas, Aynor High School was one of only four South Carolina schools to receive this prestigious honor, which is based on the areas of student achievement, faculty training, program goals and delivery systems, office practices, and community involvement; and

Whereas, the award was presented by Governor Mark Sanford, State Superintendent of Education Inez Tenenbaum, Chief Executive Officer of Carolina First Bank, Mack Whittle, and Executive Director of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators, Robert Scarborough; and

Whereas, not only is this a great achievement for Aynor High School, but it is also an award that benefits the community by showing the school's dedication to improving community relations and aiding those in need. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to Aynor High School and its administrators, teachers, and students upon receiving national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by receiving the Prudential Spirit of Community Award and on being awarded the 2003 Palmetto's Finest Award from the South Carolina Department of Education.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Aynor High School.
