A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE WELCOME OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO DR. STEFANO MOCIO, VICE MAYOR OF ORVIETO, ITALY, TO AIKEN, SOUTH CAROLINA, ORVIETO'S PARTNER IN FRIENDSHIP, AND TO DEMONSTRATE THE MEMBERS' APPRECIATION FOR DR. MOCIO'S COMMITMENT TO HELPING THE RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF AIKEN TO UNDERSTAND THE INTRICACIES OF ITALIAN CULTURE.

Whereas, it is a privilege to be able to learn from citizens of foreign countries about the similarities and differences in our cultures, our governments, our education systems, and many other aspects of everyday life; and

Whereas, Dr. Stefano Mocio is the Vice Mayor and a native of Orvieto, Italy, and received a Ph.D. in Economics, Transportation, and Energy, primarily focusing on transportation; and

Whereas, he has been on the Orvieto City Council since 1990 and has served as the Vice Mayor since 1995; and

Whereas, Dr. Mocio holds many distinguished positions in the Orvieto community, including serving as the Vice President of the Public Transportation Society for the Province of Terni, serving as the President of Strada dei Vini Etrusco-Romana, working as the Director of Procurement of the Orvieto Hospital, and teaching as an Assistant Professor at the university in Rome; and

Whereas, the officials of the City of Aiken and those of the City of Orvieto, through the Partners in Friendship Program, have been able to share cultural experiences and economic successes with each other, enabling the leaders to learn innovative techniques for improving each of the cities; and

Whereas, it is a great joy and honor for the City of Aiken to be affiliated with a city so rich in culture and economic ideas as Orvieto; and

Whereas, upon his first visit to this State, the members of the House of Representatives are hopeful that Dr. Mocio has felt a warm welcome from the citizens of Aiken and the leaders of the City and of this State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, extend their welcome to Dr. Stefano Mocio, Vice Mayor of Orvieto, Italy, to Aiken, South Carolina, Orvieto's Partner in Friendship, and demonstrate their appreciation for Dr. Mocio's commitment to helping the residents of the City of Aiken to understand the intricacies of Italian culture.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Stefano Mocio, Vice Mayor of Orvieto, Italy.
