A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE SPRING VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL "VIKINGS" OF COLUMBIA AND THEIR COACH, JOHN JONES, ON WINNING THE 2003 CLASS AAAA TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND TO COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR HARD WORK, COMPETITIVE SPIRIT, AND DEDICATION THROUGHOUT THEIR SEASON.

Whereas, being a member of a sports team affords young people the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing great athletic talents; and

Whereas, track and field meets individualize each team member's skills, but to become a championship team, all competitors must have outstanding physical abilities; and

Whereas, with the great leadership of Head Coach John Jones and his gifted assistants Kevin Belka, Rick Crumpler, Kevin Shaw, Tom Cronin, Shane Ricker, La Malik Sherman, and Mike Pettus, the track and field team of Spring Valley High School of Columbia was able to become State Champions; and

Whereas, on May, 10, 2003, the Spring Valley High School Track and Field Team competed in their most important meet of the season and defeated teams from across the State; and

Whereas, Spring Valley scored a total of 671/2 points, with their closest competitor, Berkley High School, scoring 62 points, and the team captured the 2003 Class AAAA Track and Field Championship Title; and

Whereas, the "Vikings" were strong competitors in every event at the State Championship Meet and gained most of their points in distance races and pole vaulting events; and

Whereas, the members of this exceptional team are Cody Arave, Terrance Benbow, John Benton, Torrie Davis, Sergio Geiger, Julian Green, Jon Hardin, Darrian Hodges, Brian Raymond, Ronald Taylor, Robert Thompson, and Reid Wilson; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly wish these young champions much success in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly extend their congratulations to the Spring Valley High School "Vikings" of Columbia and their coach, John Jones, on winning the 2003 Class AAAA Track and Field Championship Title and commend them for their hard work, competitive spirit, and dedication throughout their season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the members of the Spring Valley High School Track and Field Team and Coach John Jones of Columbia.
