TO EXTEND THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO MR. HODGES LEWIS OF RICHLAND COUNTY FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND HIS COMMUNITY THROUGH HIS WORK IN EDUCATION AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the education of South Carolina's young people is of utmost importance to the members of the House of Representatives and to the citizens of this State; and

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the great achievements of educators and to thank the incredible individuals who have dedicated their lives to improving South Carolina's schools and motivating our young people; and

Whereas, Mr. Hodges Lewis of Richland County grew up in Eatonton, Georgia, and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1963; and

Whereas, Mr. Lewis taught at many institutions in the South, including Clemson University, before he became an English teacher at Irmo High School in 1976; and

Whereas, he has devoted his professional career to enhancing the education system and challenging young minds; and

Whereas, for twenty-seven years, he has tirelessly given his time and energy to provide the best quality of education to his students and for over twenty years, he has been the coach of the Irmo High School Academic Team; and

Whereas, under his leadership, the team has won three grand champion titles in academic bowl competitions sponsored by the National Academic Association, including back-to-back titles in 2001 and 2002; and

Whereas, in 1990, Mr. Lewis was named Lexington School District Five's Teacher of the Year; and

Whereas, Mr. Lewis officially retired as an English teacher, but he continues to aid in the education and development of this state's young people by teaching part-time and coaching the Irmo High School Academic Team; and

Whereas, Mr. Lewis is an inspiration to many and positively influences both his students and his colleagues by demonstrating dedication and hard work in every aspect of his life. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives extend their appreciation to Mr. Hodges Lewis of Richland County for his many years of service to this State and his community through his work in education and wish him much success and happiness in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Hodges Lewis of Richland County.
