VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO HONOR ANNA LOU AND ROBERT MARVIN FOR THEIR LOVE AND PASSION OF NATURE AND TO RECOGNIZE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ANNA LOU AND ROBERT MARVIN PARK IN WALTERBORO.
Whereas, Mr. Robert Marvin was a renowned landscape architect for fifty years whose work included the East Cooper Palmetto Island Park, the Brittlebank Park, and the Adger's Wharf Park in Charleston, Finlay Park in Columbia, and the landscape plan for Sea Pines Plantation in Hilton Head; and
Whereas, Mr. Marvin received many national environmental landscape prizes and regional design awards including recognition and awards at the White House from six first ladies. He was recognized by his profession when he was elected as a Fellow into the American Society of Landscape Architects and when he received the society's premier honor, the Gold Medal Award; and
Whereas, the State recognized his contributions by awarding him the Order of the Palmetto and including him into the South Carolina Hall of Fame, the state's two highest honors, and he received the Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award from the South Carolina Arts Commission; and
Whereas, Mr. Marvin has shared his goal, to "create and design an environment in which each individual can grow and develop to be a full human being as God intended him to be". At many lectures throughout the country he has met many people in the landscape architecture business through the efforts of his wife, Anna Lou, who helped him to gain nationwide recognition; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are proud to honor Anna Lou and Robert Marvin for their many contributions to the environment and their efforts to ensure that South Carolina remains one of the most beautiful states in the United States. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor Anna Lou and Robert Marvin for their love and passion of nature and recognize the establishment of the Anna Lou and Robert Marvin Park in Walterboro.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Anna Lou Carrington Marvin and the University of South Carolina-Salkehatchie.
