A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE INTERCHANGE AT INTERSTATE HIGHWAY I-385 AND UNITED STATES HIGHWAY U.S. 49 IN LAURENS COUNTY THE "GEORGE L. PHINNEY MEMORIAL INTERCHANGE" IN HONOR OF THE LATE GEORGE L. PHINNEY, WHOSE GOOD WORKS AND GOOD DEEDS MADE LAURENS COUNTY, THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND THIS COUNTRY BETTER PLACES TO LIVE, AND INSTALL APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THE INTERCHANGE.

Amend Title To Conform

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to honor the worthy citizens of our State for their outstanding contributions; and

Whereas, George Leon Phinney of Laurens County died September 12, 2002, leaving a legacy of service; and

Whereas, he served his country, as a fighter pilot in World War II and in the Department of Commerce during the Carter administration; and

Whereas, his many contributions to his State through the state's political process and the creation of economic and business opportunities earned him the Order of the Palmetto, the highest citizenship honor given by the State; and

Whereas, the County of Laurens is the beneficiary of his fifty years of commitment to its civic, political, and business communities. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly request that the Department of Transportation name the interchange at Interstate Highway I-385 and South Carolina Highway S. C. 49 in Laurens County the "George L. Phinney Memorial Interchange" in honor of the late George L. Phinney, whose good works and good deeds made Laurens County, the State of South Carolina, and this country better places to live, and install appropriate markers or signs at the interchange.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
