AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 56-1-50, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE ISSUANCE OF A BEGINNER'S PERMIT, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A STUDENT WHO IS AT LEAST FIFTEEN YEARS OF AGE ENROLLED IN A HIGH SCHOOL DRIVER'S TRAINING COURSE IS NOT REQUIRED TO OBTAIN A BEGINNER'S PERMIT TO OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE; AND TO REPEAL SECTION 56-5-6140 RELATING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES PROVIDING A COPY OF MOVING VIOLATION CHARGES AGAINST A PERSON UNDER THE AGE OF EIGHTEEN TO THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE USED DURING THE VIOLATION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Beginner's driver's permit
SECTION 1. Section 56-1-50(E)(1) of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 258 of 1998, is further amended to read:
"(1) a student at least fifteen years of age regularly enrolled in a high school of this State which conducts a driver's training course while the student is participating in the course and when accompanied by a qualified instructor of the course; and"
Repeal
SECTION 2. Section 56-5-6140 of the 1976 Code is repealed.
Time effective
SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
Ratified the 3rd day of June, 2004.
Approved the 16th day of July, 2004.
