A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND ROBERT MOORE OF BERKELEY COUNTY FOR THE COURAGE AND HEROISM HE RECENTLY DISPLAYED WHEN HE SUFFERED INJURIES WHILE ATTEMPTING TO EXTINGUISH A FIRE IN HIS FAMILY'S HOME AND RESCUING HIS MOTHER AND THREE SIBLINGS FROM THE DWELLING.

Whereas, in late January 2003, Robert Moore, a fourteen-year-old Berkeley Middle School student awoke to find the home that he shared with his parents and three siblings filled with smoke; and

Whereas, realizing that his family was in danger, Robert raced to the room where his mother was sleeping and found a kerosene heater on fire; and

Whereas, the teenager awoke his mother and helped her get his three-week-old brother and two other siblings out of the home; and

Whereas, after calling 911, he went back to the smoke and fire filled room and received second-degree burns and smoke inhalation when he tried to extinguish the flames; and

Whereas, while the fire completely destroyed the home, Robert's heroism prevented the family from suffering a greater loss; and

Whereas, by this resolution, the members of the South Carolina Senate would like to pause in their deliberations to honor and recognize Robert Moore for his gallant efforts to save his mother and three siblings in spite of the potential risks to his own life. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina commend Robert Moore of Berkeley County for the courage and heroism he displayed when he suffered injuries while attempting to extinguish a fire in his family's home and rescuing his mother and three siblings from the dwelling.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Robert Moore.
