A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE ANDERSON COUNTY REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS OFFICE ON ITS SELECTION BY THE STATE ELECTION COMMISSION AS THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S "OUTSTANDING VOTER REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS OFFICE FOR 2003", AND EXPRESSING THE GRATITUDE OF THE STATE TO DIRECTOR PATSY BROWN AND HER STAFF FOR THEIR DEDICATION TO THE ELECTORATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the State Election Commission tapped the Anderson County office "Outstanding Voter Registration and Elections Office of 2003"; and

Whereas, Director Patsy Brown and her staff, Beth Keaton, Evelyn McCalla, Katie Smith, and Linda Vickery, used equipment and technology provided by the State Election Commission to restructure their database and filing system and to access, download, print, and view accurate, up-to-date, and detailed maps for locating and verifying voters' residences; and

Whereas, these improvements allowed increased efficiency and accuracy in creating and accessing active, inactive, and purged voter registration files; and

Whereas, the staff also has been able to "share" files from other local departments and state agencies to avoid duplication and further enhance accuracy and efficiency; and

Whereas, the Anderson County office is to be commended for its determination and willingness to institute the kinds of changes necessary to bring its operation into the 21st Century. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize the Anderson County Registration and Elections Office on its selection by the State Election Commission as the State of South Carolina's "Outstanding Voter Registration and Elections Office for 2003", and express the gratitude of the State to Director Patsy Brown and her staff for their dedication to the electorate of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Director Patsy Brown.
