A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND CONGRATULATE AMANDA REEVES AND HER FAMILY FOR BEING NAMED THE 2004 NATIONAL AMBASSADOR FAMILY FOR THE MARCH OF DIMES AND TO COMMEND THE REEVES FAMILY FOR TRAVELING THE COUNTRY TO SHARE THEIR STORY AND TO PROMOTE AWARENESS OF PREMATURE BIRTH.

Whereas, Amanda Reeves of Simpsonville was born July 13, 1998, fourteen weeks early, weighing just one pound, 7.4 ounces; and

Whereas, Amanda was so tiny that her father could slip his wedding ring over her hand to her shoulder; and

Whereas, spending her first eighty-four days in the neonatal intensive care unit at Greenville Hospital System Children's Hospital, Amanda was fighting for her life; and

Whereas, today, Amanda is a happy, energetic kindergartner at Bryson Elementary School in Simpsonville; and

Whereas, while her parents, Michele and Bill Reeves, still worry about the long-term effects of her premature birth, they are grateful for the care and treatments that helped Amanda survive and are proud to have been named the 2004 National Ambassador Family for the March of Dimes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and congratulate Amanda Reeves and her family for being named the 2004 National Ambassador Family for the March of Dimes and commend the Reeves family for traveling the country to share their story and to promote awareness of premature birth.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Reeves family of Simpsonville.
