A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE MEMBERS AND COACHING STAFF OF THE CHERAW HIGH SCHOOL "BRAVES" BASEBALL TEAM ON WINNING THE 2004 CLASS AA STATE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the Cheraw High School "Braves" Baseball Team clinched the State AA Championship in an 11-5 win over Batesburg-Leesville on May 15, 2004; and

Whereas, in a three-game championship series, the Braves showed their mettle after a 7-6 loss to the Batesburg-Leesville "Panthers" in the second game and came roaring back with a final and clinching game before an overflow crowd at the "neutral" Lugoff-Elgin site with the outstanding pitching of senior Tommy Grice, who pitched a 9-0 shutout in game one and also helped the cause in the batter's box with a homerun and two singles; and

Whereas, all of the Braves players comported themselves with distinction and good sportsmanship in this championship and in the regular season and playoffs, a tribute to their athletic skills, good character, and the coaching of Coach David Byrd; and

Whereas, the Braves ended their 2004 season with twenty-five wins and only six losses, including winning twelve of their last thirteen games; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to pause in their deliberations to honor the Cheraw High School "Braves", the State 2004 AA championship baseball team, the team's coaching staff, and the families and friends of the team members and coaches, and the loyal fans whose support in both defeat and victory contributed to this memorable 2004 season. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That by this resolution, the members of the General Assembly express their congratulations to the members and coaching staff of the Cheraw High School "Braves" baseball team on winning the 2004 Class AA State Baseball Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Cheraw High School "Braves" Baseball Team.
