A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING MICHELLE JEWETT OF CENTERVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN THE ANDERSON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR BEING NAMED THE EARTH SCIENCE TEACHER OF THE YEAR BY THE MINING ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH CAROLINA, THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, AND THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA CENTER FOR SCIENCE EDUCATION AND EXTENDING SINCERE APPRECIATION FOR HER OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AND MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO EDUCATION IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Michelle Jewett has been named Earth Science Teacher of the Year by the Mining Association of South Carolina; and

Whereas, through her guidance, leadership, and vision, Michelle Jewett designed the basic structure of her course to ensure students learned by embedding many other educational skills into the learning process, such as reading, writing, development of a musical instrument, using the Internet, and completing an Venn diagram; and

Whereas, to embrace real science as it is happening, Michelle Jewett ensured students had daily contact with rocks and soil; and

Whereas, Michelle Jewett was chosen by members from the South Carolina Earth Science Teacher Association, the Mining Association of South Carolina, the South Carolina Department of Education, and the University of South Carolina Center for Science Education; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize Michelle Jewett for receiving this distinguished award and for her dedication to her students and to excellence in education, all of which have contributed immeasurably to the children and future of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Michelle Jewett of Centerville Elementary School for being named the Earth Science Teacher of the Year by the Mining Association of South Carolina, the South Carolina Department of Education, and the University of South Carolina Center for Science Education and extend their sincere appreciation for her outstanding leadership and many contributions to education in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Michelle Jewett.
