INVITATIONS AND MEMORIAL RESOLUTIONS

To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (S. 942) to request the Department of Transportation to name that section of Highway 76/301 North commencing at the intersection of Highway 327 and ending at the Old Marion Highway in honor, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO NAME THAT SECTION OF HIGHWAY 76/301 NORTH COMMENCING AT THE INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAY 327 AND ENDING AT THE OLD MARION HIGHWAY IN HONOR OF MR. CHRISTOPHER JAMES YAHNIS AND TO INSTALL APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS ALONG THIS HIGHWAY CONTAINING THE WORDS "CHRISTOPHER JAMES YAHNIS HIGHWAY".

Whereas, Christopher James Yahnis moved to the State of South Carolina in 1951 after graduating from the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Science degree; and

Whereas, Mr. Yahnis served his nation as a United States Army counter intelligence special agent in Columbia from 1951 through 1953; and

Whereas, in 1966 Mr. Yahnis co-founded the Y&B Distributing company, which later became the Chris J. Yahnis Corporation, and in 1986 he created the Chris J. Yahnis Coastal Corporation, both of which now employ more than one hundred people; and

Whereas, in 1992 Mr. Yahnis founded Home Health, Incorporated in Florence which employed more than three hundred people under his stewardship; and

Whereas, Mr. Yahnis has been an active real estate investor in the Florence area and has shared his substantial business acumen with other entrepreneurs in the Pee Dee area by serving as an investor and mentor; and

Whereas, Mr. Yahnis has been a member of the Greek Orthodox Church since 1954 and has served as a past president of the Greek Orthodox Church Parish Council; and

Whereas, Mr. Yahnis is also a past member of the South Carolina Mental Health Board, the Division Chairman of the Florence County United Way, the Chairman of the United Negro College Fund Telethon, a board member of the Florence Boys Club, a member of the Elks and American Legion, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Hospice. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, request the Department of Transportation to name that portion of Highway 76/301 North commencing at the intersection of Highway 327 and ending at the Old Marion Highway in honor of Mr. Christopher James Yahnis and to install appropriate markers or signs along this highway containing the words "Christopher James Yahnis Highway".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
