AN ACT TO AMEND ACT 178 OF 1995, RELATING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE BOARD OF ELECTIONS AND REGISTRATION FOR MCCORMICK COUNTY, SO AS TO REQUIRE THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE BOARD, UPON RECOMMENDATION OF THE MCCORMICK COUNTY COUNCIL, BE APPOINTED BY A MAJORITY VOTE OF THE SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES MEMBERS REPRESENTING MCCORMICK COUNTY TO SERVE FOR A TERM OF TWO YEARS; AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE BOARDS OF TRUSTEES OF MCCORMICK AND EDGEFIELD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTS FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2003-2004 ARE AUTHORIZED TO FORGIVE UP TO THREE SCHOOL DAYS MISSED BY ANY SCHOOL OF THE DISTRICTS BECAUSE OF SNOW, ICE, OR EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Executive director appointed
SECTION 1. Section 1 of Act 178 of 1995 is amended by adding a new paragraph at the end to read:
"(G) The executive director, upon recommendation of the McCormick County Council, must be appointed by a majority vote of the members of the Senate and a majority vote of the members of the House of Representatives representing McCormick County. The appointment is for a term of two years or until a successor is appointed."
Missed school days exempt
SECTION 2. In accordance with Section 59-1-430, up to three school days missed by students enrolled in any school in the McCormick County School District because the school was closed due to snow, extreme weather conditions, or other disruptions are exempt from being made up if approval is granted through a majority vote of the local school board.

In accordance with Section 59-1-430, up to three school days missed by students enrolled in any school in the Edgefield County School District because the school was closed due to snow, extreme weather conditions, or other disruptions are exempt from being made up if approval is granted through a majority vote of the local school board.
Time effective
SECTION 4. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
