A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND WILLIAM F. MAHON OF COLUMBIA FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, CONGRATULATE HIM ON HIS MANY ACHIEVEMENTS ON BEHALF OF THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY AND ON RECEIVING THE MEDICAL EXECUTIVE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD, AND EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Mr. William F. Mahon is a graduate of Governors State University in Park Forest South, Illinois, and Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Park, Illinois. Currently he is the chief executive officer of the South Carolina Medical Association, a position he has held since April 1984. Prior to his current position, Mr. Mahon was executive director of the South Carolina Medical Care Foundation from 1974 to 1984; and

Whereas, Mr. Mahon has overseen the development and growth of a number of successful subsidiaries, including Physicians Care Network, a statewide healthcare provider network; Members Insurance Trust, a self-funded health plan providing health coverage to South Carolina Medical Association members and their families; and South Carolina Medical Association Financial Services, a subsidiary specializing in the sale of professional and personal lines of insurance; and

Whereas, Mr. Mahon is also chairman of the South Carolina Rural Health Board and serves on the City Advisory Board of National Bank of South Carolina. He was recently appointed to the Board of Visitors of the Medical University of South Carolina. He has served on numerous state committees, including the South Carolina Data Oversight Council and the Health Care Technology Task Force; and

Whereas, on a national level, he has served on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Professional Standards Review Organizations and the Advisory Committee to the Executive Vice President of the American Medical Association; and

Whereas, the American Medical Association selected Mr. Mahon as the recipient of the Medical Executive Achievement Award in 2000. The award is given to a medical executive who has contributed substantially to the goals and ideals of the medical profession. The award was first established in 1997 and is chosen by the American Medical Association Board of Trustees. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, commend William F. Mahon of Columbia for his outstanding service as chief executive officer of the South Carolina Medical Association, congratulate him on his many achievements on behalf of the medical community and on receiving the Medical Executive Achievement Award, and extend best wishes to him in all of his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to William F. Mahon of Columbia.
