A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE MOST HEARTFELT APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE SERVICE MEMBERS OF MARINE WING SUPPORT SQUADRON 273, MARINE AIR CONTROL SQUADRON 2 DETACHMENT, COMBAT SERVICE SUPPORT DETACHMENT 23, MARINE FIGHTER ATTACK SQUADRON 115, MARINE FIGHTER ATTACK SQUADRON 251, MARINE ALL WEATHER FIGHTER ATTACK SQUADRON 533, AND MARINE AVIATION LOGISTICS SQUADRON 31 AND TO THE MARINES FROM MARINE AIRCRAFT GROUP 31 HEADQUARTERS AND THE SAILORS FROM THE BRANCH MEDICAL AND DENTAL CLINICS FOR THEIR COURAGE AND PATRIOTISM IN DEFENDING THIS COUNTRY IN OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM AND TO WELCOME HOME THESE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN ON WHOM THE CITIZENS OF THIS STATE AND THIS NATION DEPEND EVERY DAY TO PROTECT THE FREEDOMS THAT WE ENJOY.

Whereas, soldiers from across the United States serve in the military in order to ensure that every American enjoys the freedom that this country promises to uphold; and

Whereas, all United States citizens are indebted to these courageous men and women who are willing to risk their lives to protect this nation; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are exceedingly proud to have so many devoted South Carolinians serve in military branches for this country and have been greatly concerned for the safety and well-being of those soldiers who were deployed whose squadrons are based in this State; and

Whereas, the people of South Carolina, as well as this nation, have expressed unfailing support for our troops who were sent overseas to defend this nation and all in which its people believe; and

Whereas, it is a tremendously joyous occasion when these young men and women serving our country return home from war to their loving families and many friends; and

Whereas, nearly 1800 service members stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort were deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and are members of Marine Wing Support Squadron 273, the "Sweathogs"; Marine Air Control Squadron 2 Detachment, the "Eyes of the MAGTF; Combat Service Support Detachment 23, the "Roughnecks"; Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 115, the "Silver Eagles"; Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251, the "Thunderbolts"; Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 533, the "Hawks"; and Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 31, the "Stingers"; marines from Marine Aircraft Group 31 Headquarters; and sailors from the Branch Medical and Dental Clinics; and

Whereas, these courageous service members will be returning to Beaufort to reunite with loved ones and to continue to serve and protect the United States of America; and

Whereas, it is with great pride and pleasure that the members of the General Assembly welcome home our troops and hope that they realize how thankful we are for their service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, extend their most heartfelt appreciation to the Marine Wing Support Squadron 273, Marine Air Control Squadron 2 Detachment, Combat Service Support Detachment 23, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 115, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251, Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 533, and Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 31, and marines from Marine Aircraft Group 31 Headquarters, and sailors from the Branch Medical and Dental Clinics of Beaufort for their courage and patriotism in defending their country in Operation Iraqi Freedom and welcome home these brave men and women on whom the citizens of this State and this nation depend on every day to protect the freedoms that we enjoy.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Marine Wing Support Squadron 273, Marine Air Control Squadron 2 Detachment, Combat Service Support Detachment 23, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 115, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251, Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 533, Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 31, and Marine Aircraft Group 31 Headquarters, and to sailors from the Branch Medical And Dental Clinics .
