The Senate assembled at 12:00 Noon, the hour to which it stood adjourned, and was called to order by the PRESIDENT.

A quorum being present, the proceedings were opened with a devotion by the Chaplain as follows:

Beloved, long, long ago the Psalmist wrote or sang Psalm 121:

"I will lift up my eyes to the hills... from where will my help come?

My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth."
Let us pray.

Father, as the ancient Jew saw the enemy coming through the mountain pass, he did not quake in fear but looked above the hills and knew that his help was from the God of the hills, the Covenant God, Jahweh, Jehovah!

Amidst the tensions, the uncertainties, the clashes between the races of mankind, the storms in the heart of mankind, bring us close to the powerhouse, and the lighthouse of our God.

We pray not that we be spared the battle but that we may be equal to its challenge.
Amen!

The PRESIDENT called for Petitions, Memorials, Presentments of Grand Juries and such like papers.

Doctor of the Day

Senator KNOTTS introduced Dr. Thomas E. Gibbons, Jr. of Columbia, S.C., Doctor of the Day.
