A SENATE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING KRISTEN LAFFLER OF GREER ON RECEIVING THE PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD, THANKING HER FOR HER NUMEROUS HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE, AND WISHING HER MUCH SUCCESS IN ALL OF HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Kristen Laffler, of Greer, is a senior at Eastside High School in Taylors, South Carolina; and

Whereas, she was recently named a top youth volunteer in South Carolina for 2006, in the 11th Annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and

Whereas, the award, America's largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteerism, was created in 1995 to emphasize the importance volunteering has on the nation and to encourage all young Americans to contribute their time and energy in the community; and

Whereas, Miss Laffler, influenced by a good friend's fatal car accident, created a website that provides information, tips, and advice to encourage good driving habits by teenagers. In addition to constantly updating her website, she promotes safe driving by working with the news media, by speaking to student groups, and by lobbying for safe-driving legislation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulates Miss Kristen Laffler on the honor of receiving the Prudential Spirit of Community Award, thanks her for her numerous hours of community service, and wishes her much success in all of her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Kristen Laffler.
