A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE JACK W. CLAYPOOLE OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON HIS APPOINTMENT AS ADMINISTRATOR OF THE DRUG FREE COMMUNITIES SUPPORT PROGRAM WITHIN THE EXECUTIVE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT, OFFICE OF NATIONAL DRUG CONTROL POLICY AT THE WHITE HOUSE, TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION FOR HIS OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AND MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE LEXINGTON/RICHLAND ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE COUNCIL, AND TO WISH HIM GREAT SUCCESS IN HIS NEW POSITION AND IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Mr. Jack W. Claypoole, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Lexington/Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council (LRADAC) has been appointed to serve in the Bush Administration in the Office of National Drug Control Policy; and

Whereas, Mr. Claypoole, a graduate of the University of South Carolina's College of Mass Communications and Information Services, where he has served on the faculty as an adjunct professor, has nearly twenty years of experience in the alcohol, tobacco, and drug field; and

Whereas, Mr. Claypoole has fourteen years of law enforcement experience and before coming to LRADAC, he served as Deputy Director of the American Lung Association of South Carolina. Upon arriving at LRADAC, he created and directed the Office of Public Affairs for the council and next served as Deputy Director for Community Services. When appointed Deputy Director of the Council, he oversaw the rebuilding of the cabinet agency's communications and external affairs effort, winning six state and national communications awards in his first year with the council; and

Whereas, Mr. Claypoole was named Executive Director of LRADAC January 1, 2002, and President and Chief Executive Officer on June 9, 2005. Under his leadership LRADAC was named the best managed not-for-profit agency in South Carolina in 2003 by the South Carolina Association of Nonprofit Organizations; and

Whereas, he is very active in his profession and is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America and previously served as president of the South Carolina chapter. He has won over forty communications and public policy awards and was named South Carolina's Public Relations Practitioner of the Year in 1997; and

Whereas, in addition to Mr. Claypoole's professional contributions and achievements, he has served in various leadership roles with several community and civic organizations and has chaired local and statewide efforts to combat substance use and abuse in South Carolina; and

Whereas, in his new position as Administrator of the Drug Free Communities Support Program within the Executive Office of the President, Office of National Drug Control Policy, Mr. Claypoole will oversee funding for over 700 real community-based efforts to prevent drug abuse across the United States; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize such an accomplished son of South Carolina as he embarks on a new chapter of an already distinguished and outstanding career. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Jack W. Claypoole of Richland County on his appointment as Administrator of the Drug Free Communities Support Program within the Executive Office of the President, Office of National Drug Control Policy at the White House, express appreciation for his outstanding leadership and many contributions to the Lexington/Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council, and wish him well in his new position and in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Mr. Jack W. Claypoole.
