A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR RYAN DAVID WILKIE OF LEXINGTON COUNTY ON ACHIEVING THE ELITE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT WITH THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA AND TO WISH HIM FURTHER SUCCESS IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is with great pride that the Senate honors South Carolina youth like Ryan David Wilkie of Lexington County who selflessly give of their time, talents, and energy to better their local communities, the State, and ultimately our nation; and

Whereas, those scouts who have attained the rank of Eagle are some of the best ambassadors the State could have, as they represent the qualities consistent with those held by the founders of this nation during its creation. The rank of Eagle Scout is a tremendous honor that very few scouts attain and is recognized as one of the most prestigious awards that a young man can earn; and

Whereas, the son of David and Valerie Wilkie, this White Knoll High School student joined the Boy Scouts of America as a Webelos Scout in the fourth grade and continued throughout his life, culminating in his achieving the rank of Eagle Scout on April 27, 2006; and

Whereas, for his Eagle Scout Service Project, Ryan conceived and implemented the transformation of an empty dirt courtyard at the Lexington United Methodist Church into a landscaped meditation courtyard. This project added a lighted wood cross, plants, flowers, irrigation system, and a lighted fountain; and

Whereas, since joining the Boy Scouts of America, Ryan has held numerous leadership positions, including Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, and Troop Guide. Ryan is a member of the Order of the Arrow, the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America, and he attended the Boy Scouts of America 2005 National Jamboree at Fort A. P. Hill, Virginia, as a Patrol Leader; and

Whereas, for his exceptional works, Ryan has received the God and Life Award and the World Conservation Award; and

Whereas, Ryan plays trumpet in the White Knoll High School Band and upon graduating high school he hopes to attend the United States Naval Academy, study physics, and, after serving his country, would like to become an astronomer; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate are pleased to recognize this South Carolina son who serves as a positive role model, not just for Boy Scouts, but for all of South Carolina's young people. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate and honor Ryan David Wilkie of Lexington County on achieving the elite rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and wish him further success in all of his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ryan David Wilkie.
