A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE LIFE AND DISTINGUISHED SERVICE OF THEIR COLLEAGUE THE HONORABLE DARRELL JACKSON, MEMBER OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS BEING HONORED BY A DINNER/ROAST SPONSORED BY THE BENEDICT COLLEGE COLUMBIA ALUMNI CLUB #2.

Whereas, Senator Jackson was born February 1, 1957, in Columbia, South Carolina, and was graduated from Dreher High School in 1975; and

Whereas, Senator Jackson was graduated from Benedict College in 1979, attended the University of South Carolina School of Law from 1979-1980, and attended Columbia Bible College and Seminary from 1980-1982; and

Whereas, Senator Jackson received an Honorary Doctorate of Law Degree from The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree from Benedict College; and

Whereas, in 2000, Senator Jackson was honored with the NAACP's "The Modjeska Monteith Simkins Political Courage" Award; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Victim's Assistance Network honored Senator Jackson with the "In Recognition of Outstanding Legislative Support for Child Victims of Crime" Award; and

Whereas, Senator Jackson serves with distinction on various South Carolina Senate Committees, including Agriculture and Natural Resources, Banking and Insurance, Judiciary, Medical Affairs, and Rules; and

Whereas, Senator Jackson serves as Pastor of Bible Way Baptist Church of Atlas Road; and

Whereas, Senator Jackson is to be "honored" by a dinner/roast sponsored by the Benedict College Columbia Alumni Club #2 on Saturday, March 12, 2005; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to add their voices to those who will be meeting to honor their colleague. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor the life and distinguished service of their colleague, the Honorable Darrell Jackson, upon the occasion of his being honored by a dinner/roast sponsored by the Benedict College Columbia Alumni Club #2.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Darrell Jackson.
