VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND SECTION 40-71-10, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO EXEMPTION FROM TORT LIABILITY FOR MEMBERS OF PROFESSIONAL COMMITTEES FORMED TO MAINTAIN STANDARDS OF A STATE OR LOCAL PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY, SO AS TO INCLUDE THE SOUTH CAROLINA DETENTION ACCREDITATION COUNCIL IN THE DEFINITION OF "PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY".
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 40-71-10(A) of the 1976 Code, as amended by Act 296 of 2004, is further amended to read:
"(A) 'Professional society' as used in this chapter includes legal, medical, osteopathic, optometric, chiropractic, psychological, dental, accounting, pharmaceutic, and engineering organizations having as members at least a majority of the eligible licentiates in the area served by the particular society and any foundations composed of members of these societies. It also includes the South Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation Council and the South Carolina Detention Accreditation Council."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
