A BILL

TO AMEND JOINT RESOLUTION 272 OF 1985, RELATING TO THE MURRELL'S INLET-GARDEN CITY FIRE DISTRICT IN GEORGETOWN AND HORRY COUNTIES, SO AS TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF FIRE CONTROL FOR THE DISTRICT TO USE A PORTION OF THE IMPACT FEES TO CONSTRUCT A FACILITY OR BUILDING IN WHICH TO HOUSE OR STORE FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 1 of Joint Resolution 272 of 1985 is amended to read:

"Section    1.    In addition to the powers and duties provided for the governing body of the Murrell's Inlet-Garden City Fire District in Georgetown and Horry counties by Act 876 of 1966, the board may impose, one time only, an impact fee on all buildings under construction on the effective date of this act joint resolution and all new construction and all new additions. The fee is one percent of the cost of construction of single family residences and two percent of the cost of construction of condominiums and townhouses, high rise buildings, and all commercial construction. The fees must be used to purchase and maintain fire fighting equipment and to construct a facility or building in which to house or store fire fighting equipment."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
