A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE BLACKVILLE-HILDA HIGH SCHOOL "FIGHTING HAWKS" FOOTBALL TEAM OF BARNWELL COUNTY ON CAPTURING THE 2005 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACHING STAFF, LED BY HEAD COACH DAVID BERRY, ON COMPLETING AN AMAZING UNDEFEATED SEASON.

Whereas, football is a game of speed, power, and agility that demands discipline, dedication, sportsmanship, and teamwork for each individual player; and

Whereas, Blackville-Hilda High School Head Football Coach David Berry and his staff instilled into his players these characteristics and qualities of a great football team which led the "Fighting Hawks" to compile an unblemished record of 15 wins and zero losses during the 2005 season; and

Whereas, enduring a season of hard work and daily practices week in and week out, and overcoming such obstacles as injury and fatigue, the players and coaches of Blackville-Hilda remained strong and persevered; and

Whereas, the "Fighting Hawks" pulled out tough wins against Barnwell, Bamberg-Ehrhardt, and Baptist Hill before narrowly escaping Calhoun County in a 3-0 defensive thriller for the state championship title; and

Whereas, the team outscored its opponents 419 to 109 for an average score of 28 to 7; and

Whereas, the "Fighting Hawks", who had been knocked out of the playoffs in the semifinals the past three years, were making their first state championship game appearance in a decade; and

Whereas, this outstanding finish for the Blackville-Hilda High School Football Team signifies that Coach Berry's "Fighting Hawks" are truly a power in South Carolina Class A football and is a testament to the "Fighting Hawks" dedication, hard work, and determination; and

Whereas, Coach Berry and his staff are to be commended for their superb coaching, guidance, and leadership. In addition, Blackville-Hilda High School's administration, faculty, students, and families were unfailing in their support, which helped to create a memorable season; and

Whereas, the "Fighting Hawks" have brought great pride and recognition to their school and community, and the members of the General Assembly are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize this outstanding group of talented student-athletes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the Blackville-Hilda High School "Fighting Hawks" Football Team of Barnwell County on capturing the Class A State Championship Title, and honor the players, and their coaching staff led by Head Coach David Berry, on completing an amazing undefeated season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Blackville-Hilda High School Championship "Fighting Hawks" Football Team, Head Football Coach David Berry, his coaching staff, Principal Elliott Willingham, and the administration, faculty, staff, and student body of Blackville-Hilda High School.
