VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
RECOGNIZING THE FLORENCE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT FOR ITS COMPASSIONATE AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSE TO THE AFTERMATH OF HURRICANE KATRINA AS PART OF THE COMMUNITY-WIDE DISASTER RELIEF EFFORT.
Whereas, the citizens of Florence County were appalled at the destruction wrought by Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast; and
Whereas, the community of citizens came together in various ways to react to the human suffering they witnessed day after day on the news coverage of the devastation of Katrina; and
Whereas, a group of thirty citizens formed a convoy to travel to a devastated site only seven days later and offer the kinds of assistance that they could only imagine would be necessary after such a disaster; and
Whereas, as a part of that community-wide effort, the Florence County Sheriff's department deployed five men to Orange Grove, Mississippi to provide security to that convoy and to assist in other ways necessary to relieve the anguish of Orange Grove's people;
Whereas, Lieutenant Wayne Howard, Investigator Mike Hill, Deputy Chris Neal, Sergeant Scott Brown, and Deputy Austin Spell responded to the people of Orange Grove with compassion and professionalism, participating in the distribution of foodstuffs as well as comfort to the confused and displaced victims; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives is privileged to honor the Florence County Sheriff's department and the role it played in the community's response to the ravaged Gulf. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize the Florence County Sheriff's Department for its compassionate and professional response to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina as part of the community-wide disaster relief effort.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Florence County Sheriff's Department.
