A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND COMMEND C. C. "CLIFF" GOODWIN III OF SUMTER COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING COMMITMENT TO HIS CAREER AND COMMUNITY AND TO WISH HIM ALL THE BEST IN EVERY ENDEAVOR HE UNDERTAKES.

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pride in recognizing those South Carolinians who give tirelessly of themselves in furtherance of this great State; and

Whereas, Cliff Goodwin is certainly one such individual, as his life stands as a testament to all the good that comes from the hard work, integrity, and follow-through of one man; and

Whereas, born in Birmingham, Alabama, Mr. Goodwin spent all but two years of his life in Sumter, graduating from Sumter High School in 1966 and earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Presbyterian College in 1970; and

Whereas, graduating from the General Motors Dealership Management School in 1971, he carried on the work of his father and went on to become President of the Sumter-based Goodwin Buick-Jeep and Goodwin Honda-Mitsubishi-Volkswagen, motor vehicle dealerships; and

Whereas, embodying his parents' principle of maintaining quality in everything he does, Cliff Goodwin was chosen as the Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award winner, the automobile industry's most prestigious and highly coveted honor. He was one of only 66 dealers nominated for the award among the 19,500 dealers nationwide; and

Whereas, Cliff Goodwin's steadfast leadership does not begin and end at the boundaries of his car dealerships. Extraordinarily active in his community, he is the past president of the Sumter Rotary Club and has served as chairman of both the Sumter Chamber of Commerce Accreditation Committee and the Support Shaw Committee; and

Whereas, serving as Chairman of the Support of Shaw Committee, Mr. Goodwin performed perhaps the most notable of his community efforts in helping Sumter retain Shaw Air Force Base, as his committee raised more than $450,000.00 to be used in the base defense effort; and

Whereas, his great impact on the Sumter community has not gone unnoticed, as he was awarded the Sumter Chamber of Commerce 2005 Outstanding Achievement Award; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives lauds Mr. Goodwin for his enduring love and commitment to the Sumter community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and commend C.C. "Cliff" Goodwin III of Sumter County for his outstanding commitment to his career and community and wish him all the best in every endeavor he undertakes.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Cliff Goodwin.
